Projects* for SandboxAQ Residents are generally defined collaboratively with our scientists and engineers, but they can span the following areas:

CYBERSECURITY
Quantum Security

Improve the security of global data infrastructures against imminent attacks due to quantum capabilities (e.g. via Shor’s algorithm). Migrate from public-key cryptosystems to quantum-resistant cryptosystems.

QUANTUM SENSING
Quantum Sensing

Build and scale the next generation of quantum sensors to better understand the world around us. Combine AI tools with data from new quantum sensing devices to impact sectors such as the life sciences, navigation, and geophysics.

QUANTUM SIMULATION & OPTIMIZATION
Quantum Simulation & Optimization

Combine advanced physics-based and AI algorithms with the accelerated hardware of today to solve challenging problems. Develop hybrid quantum/classical applications to more accurately model our world (e.g. drug discovery, materials science).

QUANTUM SECURE COMMUNICATIONS
Artificial Intelligence

Train and deploy models based on techniques from the many branches of AI such as deep learning, SciML, signal processing, image classification, natural language processing and reinforcement learning.

QUANTUM SECURE COMMUNICATIONS
Learning Science + Education

Support our network of educators to create content on quantum mechanics, linear algebra, cryptography, machine learning and other disciplines. Steer clear of the curse of knowledge to make training accessible for a wide range of audiences.

*Output from a residency may include academic publications, software contributions, technical reports, and/or patents depending on project needs and resident goals.

Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled in a STEM PhD program: math, computer science, engineering, physics, or related field.
    **Non-PhD post-graduate students may be considered on a case-by-case basis (e.g. MD, Masters)
  • Proficiency with at least one programming language (Python, C/C++, Matlab, etc.)
